Hi! I’m Anja. Welcome to my veg-centric blog!
I’m a foodie to my core and I’ve been this way long before that term was an Instagram hashtag. I was lucky enough to grow up with parents who were able to teach me the in’s and out’s of the food service industry; they even owned a restaurant when I was younger. Observing first-hand what the restaurant business was all about peaked a serious interest surrounding food and nutrition which further ignited as I worked in various restaurants and trialed my own recipes at home.
My passion then powered me through two degrees, an unpaid internship, hours and hours of studying, and the Registration Exam for Registered Dietitians, all to wear the crown credentials, RDN (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist).
I’m currently working as a clinical dietitian in ambulatory care. I support several primary care offices, including family and internal medicine clinics, in the West Michigan area. I spend most of my days educating patients on the principles of balanced nutrition all the while aligning their needs with their personal goals. I love my job! I love interacting with others and providing education, nutrition interventions, and support through Medical Nutrition Therapy. I love my field so much that I also teach future dietitians at my alma mater the hands-on therapeutic interventions necessary for various chronic conditions.
With all that being said, I often find myself missing my connection with food. So, I started this blog as a creative outlet for myself to trial recipes, post food pictures, disseminate nutrition misinformation, and jab about my favorite topic: plant-based foods.
Why plant-based food? I’m glad you to asked. My answer is simple: for our health, for our environment, and for the treatment of animals. Seems like a win-win-win, right? And the best part is, we can all contribute. While I personally follow a plant-based, vegan diet, my philosophy remains progress > perfection. By aiming to consume a more plant-centered diet, we all benefit.
I have continued to enhance my knowledge and hone in on my vegetarian nutrition niche. Most recently, I completed the Certificate in Training in Vegetarian Nutrition through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Additionally I am a graduate of the T. Colin Campbell Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate Program via eCornell. I strive to be a life-long learner and am always looking for ways to enhance my knowledge on all things food and nutrition!
